February Newsletter

Informal Recital: There will be an informal recital to entertain the residents at St. Anne’s assisted living facility, Villa Angela, on Sunday, March 22nd at 2:00 PM.  St. Anne’s is located in Greensburg near the State Police Barracks.  All students are encouraged to participate.  Music does not need to be memorized for this recital.

Music Achievement Festival: This PMTA-WC sponsored event enables a student to get input on their performance from someone other than their private teacher and also allows them to see the progress they have made from year to year.  They will be asked to play two pieces by memory in contrasting styles (generally the same two pieces that they will be playing for my Spring Recital) and will be asked to demonstrate their knowledge in general theory, and their ability in general keyboard skills.  (Only the adjudicating teacher will be in the room with them. They will not perform in front of the other students unless they choose to play in the following recital.)  There will also be a workshop in which they may participate in at no additional charge.  The students will receive a written evaluation and a certificate of participation.  I encourage all of my students to participate.  My students who have participated five years or more will be presented with an award medal at the Spring Recital.

The Vittone Composition Contest:  Students may compose and submit an original piece that they have written.  Winners will receive cash prizes and perform in the winner’s recital on May 17th at Seton Hill.  See the attached form for the requirements at the different age levels.  I will provide any interested students with manuscript paper and make suggestions to them to help them write the music in an acceptable form.  (I cannot write the music for them, but if they prefer a computer generated copy I do have music writing software on my computer that they may use.)

The Spring Recital will be on May 31st at 2:00 PM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.  More information will follow.
