October Newsletter
Barnes and Noble Recital. PMTA Westmoreland Chapter has found that we
need to have a fundraiser to cover the cost of our yearly scholarships to
qualifying graduating seniors. Each year
for the past several years we have given a small scholarship to students of our
teachers who have participated in at least 6 PMTA events during their high school
years. In the past we have used the
interest that we earned on an investment account that we have. This year due to the very low interest rates
and the larger than usual number of qualifying seniors, we will not have enough
money for the scholarships. Barnes and
Noble has offered us an opportunity to earn money by
returning to us a percentage of all the sales that they receive from our students
and their relatives on October 23rd.
In return, each teacher is permitted to do a recital in their store on
that day. I know I said that we would
not have an October Recital this year, but because this is such a worthy cause,
I am hoping that my students will participate.
It is an informal recital, so music does not have to be memorized. Please let me know if you would like to
participate so I can determine if I have enough students to get my own half
hour spot. If I don’t have at least 10
students who are willing to participate, I will have to share a time spot with
another teacher. I will try to get a
late afternoon or early evening time spot.
Attached are three coupons to be used that day. They must
be presented at the time of purchase. Please use one and give the other two to
friends or relatives to use. If they are
unable to shop at Barnes and Noble on Oct 23rd, they may make an
online purchase at BN.COM/bookfairs and specify that
their purchase is to support The Pennsylvania Music Teachers Association,
Westmoreland Chapter. Thank you for
your support.
